Screen Printing Column (51)

~You can understand something by listening to the whisper of the squeegee~

Do you know analog records?
Although CDs have become the mainstream these days, there are still many fans of analog records with the sounds of nature.
An analog record traces the signal engraved in the groove of the record board with a record stylus,
It converts it into an electric signal and amplifies it with an amplifier to play music.
Why is it an analog record even though it is a squeegee story?
Take a closer look at your screen printer.
Doesn't the appearance of the squeegee running on the plate resemble something to an analog record?
If so, the squeegee may also be picking up various signals from the screen version.
That's how I thought.
(If I say "I know analog records very well", will I be able to understand your age?)

Our printing machine controls the squeegee speed during printing with high precision.
For example, whether there is more or less ink on the screen plate,
Even if the printing pressure changes, it is controlled so that it is always constant.
If you try to move the squeegee by hand while the squeegee is stopped,
The press will try to keep the squeegee stationary.

Therefore, the signal that controls the squeegee speed is extracted from the printing machine,
By analyzing its contents, you can predict what is happening at the tip of the squeegee during printing.
For example, if there is a problem with part of the screen version,
Assume that a large load is applied when the squeegee passes through this part during printing.
so that the printing machine exerts a large force to maintain the squeegee speed.
Gives commands to the motor that moves the squeegee.
Since the squeegee speed does not change, there is no apparent change,
The force exerted by the squeegee on the plate is increasing.
Measurements of the actual printed patterns show that the distortion increases in such cases.

In this way, the squeegee picks up the contact state with the screen plate.
It can be said that the squeegee is a pretty good sensor.
By picking up this signal with a printing machine, you can see changes that cannot be seen visually.

just like a squeegee to hear a whisper.
