Screen Printing Column (41)

~sound of tapping~

I'm a little worried when I attach the scraper to the screen printer.

The squeegee is made of urethane rubber, so even if it is installed roughly, it will not damage the screen plate or printing machine.
But scrapers are different. The scraper is made of metal, so if you accidentally hit it hard against the screen plate, it will tear the plate.

By the way, the scraper should be in light contact with the screen plate. This adjustment is quite difficult. If you use a squeegee, you can adjust the paper by putting it in contact with the printing table and then pulling it with your hand.

In the case of a scraper, even if paper is sandwiched between the screen plate and the scraper, the screen plate bends, so the feeling of pressing the screen plate with the scraper is not well understood. For that reason, I will hit the scraper strongly.
This can tear the screen version. If you break the screen in the preparation stage of the printing experiment, the schedule of the printing experiment will be greatly affected.

There is a method of checking the installation of the scraper, "Ton-Ton-Ton".
What is "Ton Ton Ton"?
This is actually the sound of beating drums. Look closely at the screen version. The frame is covered with cloth. Doesn't this resemble the structure of a drum? If you hit it lightly, you will hear a "tap tap tap" sound. Use this for your set of scrapers.

First, remove the scraper completely from the plate and move the scraper up and down on the press. At this time, you will hear a "clicking" sound when metals come into contact with each other. Then move the scraper up and down while lowering the scraper little by little. When the scraper touches the screen plate, the screen plate vibrates and the sound changes.
This point is where the scraper and the screen plate come into contact. If you listen carefully to this sound, you can prevent the scraper from tearing the screen version.

From "ticking" to "tontonton", please try it.
