Screen Printing Column (16)

~Happy New Year~

Happy New Year.
We hope that you will continue to use screen printing this year, just as you did last year.
I hope that this year will also be a year in which screen printing will play an active role.

Ladies and gentlemen, have you already finished the shū chūme this year?
Because of my erratic handwriting, it would be nice if there was only one good sheet out of dozens of sheets I wrote.
And you can never write the same thing twice.
I envy those who are good at writing brushes.

I want to duplicate this precious piece!
That's where screen printing comes in.

Recall for a moment how to make a screen version.
To print the pattern on the screen plate, apply a positive film and expose it to light.
Positive film has black areas and non-black areas. Black areas do not allow light to pass through and the photosensitive emulsion applied to the plate does not harden.
The photosensitive emulsion in the uncured areas is washed away by development, so the ink passes through the areas where there is no emulsion to print.

The ink used for writing brushes is made of carbon, so light cannot pass through it.The shakizome paper is thin and allows light to pass through.
This is similar to positive film, isn't it?
Actually, it is possible to make a screen version as it is.
In addition, screen printing allows for thick film printing, so when printed with black ink, it looks just like the real thing.
How about screen printing calligraphy? Please try.
