Screen Printing Column (12)

~Seasons change, screens change~

The hot, muggy summer is over, and the dry, pleasant season is upon us.
···wait a minute! It is also a change for screen printing. Has the humidity in the print room changed? Is the air conditioner still cooling and dehumidifying? Humidity is pretty important.

For example, if you are using ink that cures by absorbing moisture in the air, the curing will naturally slow down as the humidity drops. In late autumn, dry and cold air from the high pressure on the continent may suddenly cause poor curing of the ink. The scene is panic. Why was there no problem yesterday!?

"Did you add hardener?"
"Is the drying temperature correct?"
"Is the printer broken?"
"Are you having bad luck today?"
In such cases, check the humidity. Humidity is probably different from the previous day. The humidity changes, and the curing state of the ink changes.

Ink isn't the only thing affected by humidity. The physical properties of polyester, which is the raw material of gauze for screen printing, also change depending on the humidity. If the physical properties of gauze change, it will affect the printing accuracy. Also, some emulsions are affected by humidity. Furthermore, if the humidity drops below 50%, static electricity will occur and many defects will occur.

Changes in room temperature can be easily felt by the senses when it is hot or cold, but it is difficult to feel the humidity. And the change of seasons comes suddenly. Be careful when the autumn wind blows.
